Three actions for improving a local economy in Africa

The zone of study

When we are going to develop a solidarity program, first is to do a market analysis. In our case, it'd be done in Carabane, an island found at the end of the Cassamance River, in the Region of Cassamance (Senegal). This can be supported with digital marketing actions for promoting it in the most developed countries.

It has approximately:

– 68 families (aproximately 1,300 folk) in Carabane and Three families at Four kilometers to the west of the island.
– Pregnant women: Seven
– Children under Four years: 78.

All kids are registered at the school from 6 years. From 4 to 6 years ther is a center that works and where they virtually all youngsters go and the other kids from 0 to 4 years old stay at home of grandparents, relatives, neighbors or other folks while their mothers work.

What they want

Because of the particular issues noted in senegal, it's required to launch a project to boost sanitary and hygienic conditions in the islands of the region. The project can be broken down into the following actions:

1) Draft routine disinsection of Carabane kids, Hitu and surrounding islands

This activity will only require the purchase of cleaning and decontamination and collusion of some volunteer time to time the cities were doing this work.

2) Project collection and waste treatment

This activity involves the purchase of public containers for the collection of paper and plastic and subsequent treatment.

They also build collection points for metals and glass for recycling.

3) Awareness campaigns will be conducted to reach cleaner islands

At present there's no doctor or nurse who can care for these populations. It's going to be acceptable to make arrangements with health authorities in the area with the objective they can provide them with some medical personnel. It is necessary to help medical care that occurs under the best conditions possible.

This could be the case of the ship that has no motor at Hitu (another place in the zone), so it can move, so it remains stranded at the entrance to the island. This boat could be utilised for the transference of patients between the islands.

Yakaar Africa is a non profit organisation (ONG Senegal) for the development of Africa
