Ways to help Africa: a real case in Senegal

Senegal is found on the westernmost tip of Africa. The south of the country called Cassamance spanning the entire Senegalese territory. It's a geographical and cultural territory different to the rest of the country.

From the geographical point of view the Cassamance is separated into 3 distinct areas: Low Cassamance, Middle Cassamance and High Cassamance. In Oussouye industrial conditions are awfully precarious.

One project for self-sufficiency

Yakaar Africa, a nonprofit organisation, developed a project of change of rural products Bafican. They started working with a cooperative production of jams in the close city of Oussuye. The logical complement of the project was thus the start of a business activity suited to the precise characteristics of the area by acting coaching. It would serve not only as the start of a new activity but somehow acting as a lever for commissioning up of new possibilities opening up.

The aim was to conduct coaching workshops for ladies in technical processing of rural products in the area on a little scale such as jam making mango, papaya for example.

This must hire different trainers and supply the basic tools to perform the processes and the sale of rural products may be a true development for the local economy and a serious improvement for the people of the territory and provide acceptable revenue for self -sufficiency of the project.

A collaborative project

The activity was developed with the participation and collaboration of the various representative groups of people: women, village chiefs and youth. The goal was that after an initial phase to be provided adequate resources for the production of jams, the project will become self-sufficient.

This could work on one part of the sale so that you can secure the acquisition of the required elements for the continuation of the project. Though this project is new, Yakaar Africa has experienced in the town of Bafican, having in 2010 sponsored the completing of a study room that was unused and having made a contribution to the operation of the high school kids. Aigen Digital Marketing developed a domain and other institutions were implicated. Jam is just now being produced, showing an entire success.
